About Nonogram — Picross Number Logic Puzzle Game Online

Nonogram — also known as Picross, Griddlers or Hanjie — is a logic puzzle where numbers hide a picture. Every row and every column carries a string of numbers, and those numbers tell you exactly how the filled squares in that line are grouped. Read them carefully and a hidden image emerges, square by square.

The clue 4 1 2 means a run of four filled cells, then a gap, then one, then a gap, then two, always in that order from left to right or top to bottom. Cross-reference what a row tells you against what a column tells you, and cell by cell the certainties pile up. Mark the squares you know are empty to keep your deductions clear.

Every puzzle here is generated to be solved by pure logic — you never have to guess. Pick a five, ten or fifteen grid, fill the cells the numbers demand, and watch the picture appear. Completed rows and columns dim their clues so you always know where you stand.

Tips & strategy

  • Start with the biggest clues: a line whose numbers nearly fill it has very few possible positions, often only one.
  • A clue equal to the line length fills the whole line; a clue of zero empties it — sweep those in first.
  • Overlap is your friend: even when a block can slide, its middle cells may be filled in every position.
  • Switch to Mark mode and X out cells you have proven empty — they narrow down every line that crosses them.
  • Always play the cell you are certain of, never the cell you are hoping for; one guess can unravel a whole grid.
  • When a line's numbers are satisfied, its clue dims — use that as a quick check that you have it right.
  • Drag across a row or column to fill or mark several cells in one smooth stroke.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Nonogram?

Each row and column has number clues describing the runs of filled cells in that line. Fill the squares that satisfy every clue, and a hidden picture is revealed.

What do the numbers mean?

Each number is the length of one solid run of filled cells, listed in order. Runs are separated by at least one empty cell. '3 2' means three filled, a gap, then two filled.

What is Mark mode for?

Mark mode places an X on cells you have deduced are empty. X marks are just a thinking aid — they do not count toward the picture, but they make the logic far easier to see.

Can every Nonogram be solved without guessing?

Yes. Every puzzle here is generated and verified to be solvable by logic alone, with exactly one solution — careful deduction always gets you there.

Is Nonogram the same as Picross?

Yes. Picross, Griddlers, Hanjie, Paint by Numbers and Japanese crosswords are all names for the same number-clue logic puzzle.

What grid sizes can I play?

Choose 5×5 for a quick, gentle puzzle, 10×10 for a satisfying solve, or 15×15 for a real logic challenge.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Nonogram runs instantly in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop — free, with nothing to download.
