About Block Escape — Sliding Block Puzzle to Play Free Online
Block Escape is a sliding-block logic puzzle: a jam of coloured blocks fills a 6×6 grid, and your red block is trapped in the middle. Slide the other blocks out of the way to clear a lane, then drive the red block straight through the exit on the right edge. Every block moves only along its own track — horizontal blocks left and right, vertical blocks up and down — so the whole board is one big interlocking traffic jam waiting to be untangled.
The rules take five seconds to learn but the puzzles reward real planning. There is always a solution, yet the shortest path is rarely the obvious one: freeing the red block usually means moving a piece that seems unrelated, two or three steps ahead. Each level tracks your move count and remembers your personal best, so you can replay a board and hunt for a tighter, more elegant escape.
It runs instantly in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop — no download, no sign-up, completely free. Just drag a block with your finger or mouse and it glides along its track until something stops it. With a difficulty curve that climbs from a gentle three-move warm-up to genuinely twisty brain-teasers, Block Escape is a perfect quick mental workout or a calm puzzle to sink into.
Tips & strategy
Find the red block's exit row first, then look at exactly which blocks sit between it and the right edge — those are the only ones you truly must clear.
Work backwards from the goal: ask what has to move for the red block to slide out, then what has to move to make that possible.
A block can only travel along its own axis. If a piece is blocking you but can't move out of the way, you must first shift whatever is jamming it.
Vertical blocks are your spacers — sliding one up or down often opens the single lane a horizontal block needs to cross.
Don't shuffle randomly. Each aimless move usually undoes a useful one; plan two or three moves as a unit before you touch anything.
Watch your move counter. Once you've solved a level, replay it and try to beat your best — the elegant solution is often far shorter.
If you get stuck, mentally reset: which single block, if it vanished, would let you win? Clear a path to move that one.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Block Escape?
Drag any block to slide it along its track. Horizontal blocks move left and right; vertical blocks move up and down. Clear the blocks in front of the red block, then slide the red block off the right edge through the exit to win the level.
Is every level always solvable?
Yes. Every board is checked by a solver before it ships, so there is always at least one sequence of moves that frees the red block. If you're stuck, it's a planning puzzle, not a dead end.
Why won't a block move?
Blocks only move along their own line and cannot pass through or over other blocks. If nothing happens, another block is in the way — move that one first — or the block has already reached the wall.
What do the move counter and 'Best' mean?
The counter shows how many slides you've made on the current level; 'Best' is the fewest moves you've ever used to solve it. Replay a level to try to lower your best score.
Do my levels and best scores save?
Yes — your current level and best move counts are stored in your browser, so you can close the tab and continue later on the same device. The Start button becomes 'Continue' when a saved game exists.
Is Block Escape free and does it work on mobile?
It's completely free with no install or sign-up, and it's built mobile-first — drag blocks with your finger, with large touch targets and a layout that fits any screen.
